as asked by Jeremy, here’s the preview of the feature “Eldy shutdown computer when Eldy is shut down”.
Works fine on Windows and Linux (with sudo package).

I think we need to consider this carefully… it’s very important we state if clear we are shutting down .. YOUR computer

Back from vacation

Dear all, we are back.
All has gone smooth these weeks but we’ve been spending some time planning the future.

Two most important points:
- conference Milano 9th September, for who can, please consider joining
- We are working hard to deliver as soon as possible two major steps forward for Eldy.

Vacation really helps sometimes, to identify the potential and make the right choice!
It will be an extraordinary Fall 2011!

Portable Eldy – usb

we’ve received plenty of requests regarding a portable ELDY.

An Eldy distro you can store in a usb key, where all files (config and data) are stored locally in same USB key directory.

you can download a Eldy 2.4Beta portable, the first version of Eldy portable for USB.
As first release it’s a windows zip , containing all you need to have Eldy run smoothly:Eldy application, Eldy data, and required java libraries.

ELDY – Conference in Brussels

Dear All,

we’ve organized an ELDY conference in Brussels to share the most significant e-inclusion experience.

We’re going to meet the 6th of May 2011, and we’ll analyze and discuss:
- the Regione Lombardia experience in E-inclusion
- the Ile De France intergenerational Sonie Project
- the Eldy projects in Italy
- the Mexico experience in Queretero.

We’ll update on new developments and collect requests of implementations & suggestions.

The 6th evening we’ll have a wonderful time in Brussels, with a very nice party all together.

For those of you who can’t join us , we’ll try to stream the most significant part of the conference online.
Soon we publish the program!

ELDY 2.4 – UTF8

Dear all,

you can find the a demo of Eldy over UTF8 database with latest localization (Portuguese, Arabic, Norwegian, etc).

Most importantly, this is based on a UTF8 architecture that works fine with any language!

So please, Arabic, Greek , Hebrew, Ukrainian etc:
can you please how it looks like?
as far as we are using a new architecture email automatic creation web service is not connected yet, so:

- install over a computer where you already installed eldy

or
- install on a new computer but using an existing eldy account

or
- use expert installation with third party (e.g. gmail) email

or
- use standard installation but email area (send and receive) will not work.

please do tests, about :
- how it looks like
- check addressbook works fine
- check profile saving works fine

next days we finalize all architectural points… looking forward to have a feedback from you

Eldy growing in this planet

dear All

thank you for all your efforts to localize Eldy in your languages, from the very first translation to the latest.
We’ve seen Brazilian, Mexican, Swedish, to mention a few. …

Training are going on in Switzerland, US, Ireland, UK, … every where.

It’s very strong feeling for us to see Eldy spreading so much in so far territories, as a software and as a social system with volunteers and people teaching seniors how to find their way into this brand new world interconnected, far yet one click away.

The last thought of the year is for you, dear volunteers: if you ever can please pay us a visit in Vicenza , it will be a pleasure to take you to Venice and spend a nice evening in front of a Pizza and a glass of wine.

Finally, I’ve just received latest translations contributions: here’s to you Eldy in Arabic, by Mohamed.
A great achievement I’m happy so share just at the end of this wonderful year:

2.3 released for Linux and multiuser

finally 2.3 for linux is out, and so is multi user Eldy for windows.

Please let’s finalize translations, so with Eldy 2.4 we can add new fascinating languages (Arabic, Portuguese…)
